Literature Circles are beginning!

The books have finally arrived and Book Club is ready to start! Starting this Friday, students will be receiving their novel that they chose prior to the break for their book club. Students will be given weekly comprehension packages to accompany their novels. These packages are set up in a very similar fashion to those of "Watson's go to Birmingham". The format of responses will be familiar to all students. Each package will include a connections, inferring, literal comprehension and reflection/reasoning section. These book clubs will be offered in addition to the guided reading we have been doing in class. This means there will be lots of reading going on (very exciting!)!

In addition to comprehension packages, students will complete a discussion component every week (except week one). Students will get together to discuss their novels and the amazing things they read and discovered that week.

The book club is expected to take at least 6 weeks to complete and will help me guide large group lessons and future guided reading focuses.

The schedule for book clubs will typically look like this-

Friday- Assign Chapters, begin to read
Monday- Mini lesson of the week. The lesson focus will be the focus of work students do for group discussions.
Tuesday- Read and complete work for group discussion
Wednesday- Comprehension packages are started
Thursday- Packages are completed and work for discussion group is completed
Friday- Group discussion and start next block of chapters.

Weeks for Book Club are being started on Friday's to maximize the amount of days you have to read your chapters. It is expected that students read their books, both at school and at home.
